Project 1: Color As Medium

For the Color As Medium project, I wanted to establish a world building scene through code to represent the type of work that computer science is able to develop. I edited two images, one of a street and another of code, with various Photoshop tools to create such an image. I utilized the contrasting colors of red and blue to imitate a futuristic environment.

Project 2: Cutting Line

For the Cutting Line project, I wanted my creation to be interactive and decided that a puzzle would be a fun way to execute this criteria. On the reality tv show Survivor there is a tree puzzle that is often used as a challenge. The shapes of these puzzle pieces were very organic and reminded me much of antlers. Thus, I used various shapes of black to create dimension on a deer face and made its antlers a puzzle. The burning of the plywood material allowed for the piecing of the antlers to be easier as one can utilize the pieces' burn marks to put the puzzle together.

Project 3: Steal This Book

For the Steal This Book project, I was inspired by Cher's outfit machine from Clueless and the funky drawing flip books that my siblings and I would make when we were younger. Combining these two inpirations with the prompt resulted in a video game characters flip book where the reader/user can flip any of the three flaps to create their custom character from the top, middle, and bottom parts of iconic video game characters.

Final Project

For the Final Project, I wanted to utilize this opportunity to create a graduation present for one of my friends who is graduating high school this year. While she didn't a specific item, she did request that if I were to get her anything, to make it both sentimental and practical. A makeup storage/organizer designed from images of some memorable buildings to her is what I decided to create on Illustrator and then lasercut. The three buildings I chose to create on Illustrator are her high school, home, and an iconic hall at her college next year. The material I chose to use is an opaque green acrylic as it is less likely than wood to have burn marks from the lasercutter, and it would match her dorm room theme of green.
